EDU Africa Virtual Exchange Week: SESSION 3
Independence, healing & reconciliation in Kenya: The perspectives of a Mau Mau Consortium
Identity exploration in Kenya: reflecting on the impact of culture and its effects on personal identity

SESSION DETAILS
This session explores both Identity and Social Justice in the Kenyan context. In the first session, after a short ice-breaker, we will hear from Kenyan freedom fighters and historians about the struggle for independence in the Central region of Kenya. The second session will be an identity exploration from various panellists who have had to learn and embrace new cultures when they chose to live in different parts of the world. We will hear how these new cultures have changed and affected their sense of identity and self.

LEARNING OUTCOMES
-Contextualize Kenya's colonial and post-colonial history within global trends and challenges
-Examine the inroads Kenyan communities have made and the ways they still have to go in reconciling and redefining cultures and identities that were fragmented as a result of colonialism
-Think critically on connections between culture and identity
