Building on all the significant work done on safe sport at WCL to date, including membership consensus from last year’s annual meetings that WCL and its Members commit to adopting one set of policies (and adoption being a requirement of being a member in good standing with WCL), we are now seeking broader consultation on this policy suite by engaging the community via a series of upcoming town hall meetings. The dates for these town halls are now set for each member group:
Officials: November 18th, 2020 – 7-10pm ET
Athletes: November 19th, 2020 – 7-10pm ET
Coaches: November 25th, 2020 – 7-10pm ET
PTSOs/Clubs: November 26th, 2020 – 7-10pm ET
The objective of these town hall meetings is to advance the dialogue, and build consensus and commitment related to the implementation of the Safe Sport Policy Manual within the various jurisdictions of the wrestling community, in a way that is bigger than policy adaption.
Expectations set in advance of the townhalls
(1) Little time will be spent covering old material.
(2) WCL is actively seeking input, especially in some key areas. However, this is not a total re-imagining of what has been done. Some pieces are non-negotiable. In addition, it is unlikely that consensus will be reached on all topics across all groups. As a result, not all the suggestions and input will ultimately be enacted.
(3) It is expected that a review of the Safe Sport Policy Manual has been completed in preparation for the town halls. Also, please note that if possible and in the interest of time, a pre-meeting between each member group would be beneficial so that the group can table a unified position for each topic. It would be helpful for each member group to provide WCL with a summary of key comments in advance of the town halls.
