Ampex History: Celebrate the Oldest Videotape: The 1957 Edsel Show recorded on Ampex VTRs
We'll celebrate and discuss the oldest known videotapes: The Oct. 13, 1957 CBS Television City and Grand Central Terminal recordings of "The Edsel Show" starring Frank Sinatra, Rosemary Clooney, Louis Armstrong, and Lindsay Crosby, Bing's son, performing with the Four Preps. It also featured an appearance by a "mystery guest", comedian Bob Hope.

Zoom opens at 3:30PM Pacific/7:30 PM Eastern for general chat. Program starts at 4PM P/8PM E.

LEARN the story behind this video recording.

Ted Langdell will tell about a 2006 Television City visit where he and others saw the TVC reel in the flesh, along with the head assembly that recorded it... AND the 1981 recording made by CBS TVC Engineer John Ramsta

WATCH Kris Trexler's 1987 transfer of this historic video recording. We hope he'll join us to tell the story of how came to discover the recording at CBS Television City, and walked out of the building with it EXACTLY 30 years after it was recorded:

This is the first of a series of monthly get togethers about Ampex, its history, employees, and the effects they had on magnetic recording, and through it, the world.

Oct 13, 2021 03:30 PM in Pacific Time (US and Canada)
