Simon Hallett, CFA, will present a reminder of equity market dynamics going into the coronavirus crisis and which trends have continued and which have changed since. Simon will address limitations of risk models amidst changing asset correlations and the need to exercise judgement. He’ll also review the relative valuations between international & US equity markets and put current spreads into historical context.
As Co-Chief Investment Officer of Harding Loevner LP, a global equities manager based in New Jersey, Simon Hallett, CFA, works with the firm’s other Co-CIO to oversee portfolio management teams and risk management.
Mr. Hallett has over 35 years of investment experience including managing global portfolios for individuals and institutions. He began his career in 1979 in the investment management department of London-based Buckmaster and Moore before moving to Hong Kong in 1981 to concentrate on Asian markets. In 1984, Mr. Hallett joined Jardine Fleming Investment Management where he ultimately directed a team of six portfolio managers investing in the markets of Southeast and North Asia for a diverse clientele including European pension plans, governments, and private clients. Mr. Hallett joined Harding Loevner in 1991 and was a PM for the International Equity strategy from 1991 to 2011 and for the Emerging Markets Equity strategy from 1998 to 2013. He served as Chief Investment Officer from 2003 to 2016, when he began sharing CIO responsibilities with Ferrill Roll, CFA. Mr. Hallett is a CFA Charterholder and an honors graduate of Oxford University (1978) with BA degrees in Politics, Philosophy, and Economics.
