How Insects Change Plant Succession on Mount St. Helens' Pumice Plain
After 31 years of ecological research at Mount St. Helens, John Bishop will examine the development of a new ecosystem on the Pumice Plain, where the 1980 eruption erased all traces of life. Much of this work is focused on two keystone plant colonists, alpine lupin and Sitka willow, their insect herbivores, and cascading effects on community and ecosystem development.
