SEL from a Distance with Host Jessica and John Hannigan
November 10: Chapters 1 and 2: Why SEL is even more important now than ever. How do we dig into SEL to understand what our students need to succeed in school and life?
November 12: Chapters 3-7: What are relationship skills? How do we go beyond an SEL tool to an impactful process?
SEL (social and emotional learning) has been a part of education for decades. Although it isn’t new, we are seeing it affect our students in historic ways...and with it, the need for it is increasing. Opportunity and access gaps have widened and the cracks in the system of how we support SEL are no longer hidden in the traditional chaos of school. Essentially, it has become clear that SEL competencies—students having the strategies and real-life skills they need during this time and for lifetime success—should be the number one priority focus of schools and districts around the nation and world. SEL From a Distance outlines tools and processes for providing intentional SEL for all educators, whether in person or in a virtual or hybrid learning environment.
