History Talks: A Brief History of the Senior Memorial Chime
On October 30, 1920, over one hundred years ago, the University of Illinois classes of 1914 to 1921 realized a dream. Against all odds (a world war and a global pandemic, to name a few), they banded together to present their alma mater one of the most precious gifts it has ever received. Liam Flood, a former player of the iconic chimes and 2020 graduate, has been researching into the history of the instrument for the past year. In this presentation, he shares the long lost story of the chime's origin and explores the contributions of some of the ~200 people who rang its bells.
