Container Wars: The Contentious Claim to the Commercial Shipping Revolution

Door County Maritime Museum Curator Rhys Kuzdas will present on the history of the world’s first modern shipping container built in Sturgeon Bay. This presentation will cover the story of its inventor Leathem D. Smith, the process of its design and plans for implementation, and eventual legal battles over it's patents and legacy. Broadcast in front of the first actual prototype, it will also feature a tour of its construction, including examples of the rarely seen original engineering drawings and photographs.
