The young adult (YA) publishing genre is fast-growing yet is the most banned because it tackles some of the most challenging public health issues with a young audience (13 Reasons Why, anyone?). YA is unafraid to talk about sexual violence, HIV/AIDS, mental health, trauma, and substance abuse. How can we use YA fiction to spark thoughtful and engaging conversations on these topics among young people? How might we use these conversations as a foundation for genuine youth-driven advocacy? Join this session to find out how.
