Join the Commonwealth Learning Partnership on Thursday, November 19 from 4:00 - 5:30 PM ET for a 101 workshop aimed to enhance your public advocacy skillset. This event is free and open to any Virginia educator who is interested in becoming a public advocate for education policy.
1) This 101 workshop session will be well suited for those new to advocacy. Some of the topics that will be addressed include: identifying your target audiences and crafting your advocacy message. During this time, participants will meet with guest facilitators who have expertise in the federal, state and local policymaking arenas. These facilitators will speak to and work with participants to hone their public advocacy skills.
2) We intend for this to be an event with specific, thought-provoking, and discussion-based activities. To assist us in meeting this goal, once your registration is confirmed, you will receive a follow up email from the Partnership's Director (Gena Keller), who will invite you to fill out a brief Google form. This form will help our workshop leaders gauge your familiarity and content knowledge related to education policy in order to provide a relevant workshop experience.
3) This workshop is offered in tandem with our recorded discussion series on education advocacy. Visit our website to view the six sessions we recorded with panelists who have expertise in local, state, and federal advocacy activities. While it is not mandatory that you view these sessions before attending the 101 workshop, we highly recommend you watch them OR watch the short clips we provide from each session.
