Our January 2020 report titled Mail Service During the Early Stages of the COVID-19 Pandemic, noted that despite unforeseen challenges, including higher package volumes and employee absenteeism, Postal Service management was able to keep operations running from March through May 2020. However, we did note communication gaps with customers and recommended that the Postal Service create a tool to foster communications with commercial mail customers during extraordinary situations. We will discuss how this remains relevant today as well as related, current work conducted by the USPS OIG.
