Knoxville and Fourth of July
As strange as it may seem, the Fourth of July is Knoxville's oldest known holiday. We celebrated it many years before the first known acknowledgments of Thanksgiving and Christmas. In several ways, Knoxville's celebration of it has been typical, but the Civil War unexpectedly made Knoxville's celebration of it unusual, especially in the South. Jack Neely will talk about Knoxville's 225-plus Fourths, where we celebrated and what we did, and also talk about your July memories.
