Connections and Themes in Algebra (or Why Machines should not Teach Mathematics)
We present two themes you can run through your algebra course: 1. Connecting the topics we cover, and 2. Why we call it algebra. We start with the sequence of odd numbers and end with fractals and chaos. Along the way we connect the topics in the course with each other and to the world outside. Among the topics we will cover are Pascal's triangle, the Fibonacci sequence, the Golden Rectangle, and the Sierpinski triangle. We will connect these topics to the Middle East and the trade routes. All the items in this presentation can be integrated into your online course using Zoom.
