Lloyd Austin: Secretary of the Defense Industry, with Jeremy Kuzmarov
The head of the United States military, Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, has a major conflict of interest. Before he was confirmed by the US Senate he sat on the Board of Directors for Raytheon Technologies, one of the largest weapons manufacturers in the world. Though Austin stepped down from the Board and promised to recuse himself from decisions involving Raytheon, the Pentagon has already awarded 2.36 billion dollars in contacts during the first 3 and a half months of the Biden Administration.

The revolving door between the Pentagon and the military-industrial complex has consequences. Never-ending wars aren't in the interest of the American people but they're very good for the bottom line of "defense" contractors. We'll be joined by Jeremy Kuzmarov to talk about how this connection drives military spending and needless conflict.

Jeremy Kuzmarov is Managing Editor of CovertAction Magazine, a publication founded in 1978 by critics of the CIA, including former agency officials. On April 19th, Patriots Day here in Massachusetts, Kuzmarov published, "Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin—Former Member of Raytheon Board of Directors—Has Awarded Over $2.36 Billion in Contracts to Raytheon Since His Confirmation in January," detailing

Kuzmarov is also the author of four books on U.S. foreign policy, including The Russians are Coming, Again: The First Cold War as Tragedy, the Second as Farce, with John Marciano (Monthly Review Press, 2018), Obama's Unending Wars: Fronting the Foreign Policy of the Permanent Warfare State (Clarity Press, 2019) among other works.
