In July 1944, flying officer Derek Maling finds himself lying in a field, behind enemy lines, in what is now North West Croatia. He is the only member of his RAF squadron to survive that night.
He is taken in by the Partisans, his injuries treated and then goes on a 200 mile journey from Klanjec to Vocin in the Papuk Mountains. The journey is one of grit, determination and human kindness.
Seventy five years later his daughter, Heather, goes in search of her father's story with some surprising results.
