Join us for our next Student Spotlight webinar featuring NLGJA: The Association of LGBTQ Journalists Lifetime Member and National Board Member Dr. Bethany Grace Howe! The event will be held on Wednesday, June 9 at 3 p.m. EDT. During the webinar, Howe will discuss her own path to journalism, her research on transgender healthcare, and her work with NLGJA: The Association of LGBTQ Journalists. Students and attendees will have the opportunity to ask her questions.
Dr. Bethany Grace Howe, Ph.D., has a biography that proves there's more than one use outside of media for a journalism degree. Columnist, stand-up comedienne, editor, high school and university educator, reporter, and public relations manager for "Disney On Ice" - where she was also a full-time performer in her spare time. These are just a few of her career stops. Where she's planted her rainbow flag, however, is as a transgender woman navigating the balance between advocator and educator, observer and the observed. She's the first media-related scholar examining transgender people to get her Ph.D. while transitioning. Her examination of transgender identity has produced peer reviewed research, writing and observations in a number of highly distinguished publications.
This webinar is the fourth installment of a series of online programming geared towards students in which participants will hear from industry trailblazers. While the webinars are hosted with students with mind, we know our early-career members are interested in networking with established industry professionals so we encourage all members to attend! Our members possess a deep wealth of wisdom and experience, and we at NLGJA: The Association of LGBTQ Journalists are committed to leveraging all that wisdom and sharing it with our student and early-career members. Please reach out to Membership and Programs Coordinator Kimmy Baggelaar at firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions.
