September 14: The Origins of Opera
The first in a 3-part series, join Dr. Miriam Schildkret as she brings you back to the origins of opera exploring how it has transformed throughout history. Your expedition, starting in the 1600’s, is complete with musical examples and exciting stories guiding you through the Classical period – the birthplace of several beloved operas.
Whether you’re a new opera lover or longtime enthusiast, you’ll enjoy every twist and turn of opera’s exciting history!
October 12: 19th Century Opera
November 9: Modern Opera and Musical Theater

This Miriam's fifth season as a Teaching Artist; She has performed Third Lady/Queen of the Night/Papagena (The Mini-Magic Flute), Hansel (Hansel and Gretel), and The Sea Witch (Rusalka: The Littlest Mermaid). Most recently, Miriam covered the role of Cherubino in Arizona Opera's production of The Marriage of Figaro. Other favorite roles include Dorabella (Così fan tutte), Dido (Dido and Aeneas), Prince Orlofsky (Die Fledermaus), Tisbe (La Cenerentola), Third Lady (The Magic Flute), and Kate (Owen Wingrave). Miriam was featured in the Arizona PBS series Desert Canvas, a collection of stories about local artists and their impact on the community, and was also a speaker with TEDx Scottsdale Women.
