On Liberty: Zooming into Museums Across the Country
National Museum of African American History and Culture
Friday June 18, 5:00pm ET
Join the Intrepid Museum and fellow veterans, service members and their loved ones for a virtual staycation. We will be Zooming into Washington, D.C. to visit the National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC). Denise Fayne, docent at NMAAHC, will share stories of African Americans serving in the military from the Revolutionary War to World War II, when Intrepid was commissioned. Jessica Williams, curator of history at the Intrepid Museum, will highlight experiences of African American sailors who served aboard Intrepid during World War II. Join us to learn, share and honor stories of African American military history!
Veterans Programs are made possible by public funds facilitated by the New York City Council Committee on Veterans, in partnership with the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs. These programs are also supported by the Craig Newmark Philanthropic Fund. The Museum’s education programs are supported, in part, by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and the New York State Legislature.
