(Online) Panel: Grassroots Journalism in Our Community
Brought to you by The Public i newspaper (a paper of the people) and WRFU 104.5 FM (a community radio station) — two of the working groups at the Urbana-Champaign Independent Media Center….

A panel on “Grassroots Journalism in CU: Past, Present and Future" / The Zoom event will be broadcast on Apr. 17, from 10AM to 12noon (Central Time).

The 4 panelists are:
James Tygar Corbin III -- co-host of Conscious Community Connection on WRFU radio; Peer Mentor and Economic Developer for FirstFollowers Reentry Program
A. Belden Fields -- co-founder Public i newspaper; current member of the Public i Editorial Collective; Emeritus Professor UIUC Department of Political Science
Janice Jayes -- current member of the Pubic i Editorial Collective; Department of History at Illinois State University
Phalonna Stewart -- Social Media Coordinator for the Public i

Facilitator: Karen Medina.

Belden will talk about the history of grassroots journalism with an emphasis on print.
Janice and Phalonna will talk about the future with an emphasis on print and social media.
James and Heather will bring in the present and future of local radio journalism.
