SPLIS Webinar: Maintaining pronunciation intelligibility in international settings: What teachers and researchers should know
English is the most widely used lingua franca around the globe, making internationally intelligible pronunciation an important goal for numerous learners of English. This webinar provides an overview of the most important research findings concerning how to maintain intelligibility in international contexts, including those related to factors other than a speaker’s pronunciation itself. The subtitle – ‘what teachers and researchers should know’ – reflects the two aims of the webinar: 1) to raise awareness among teachers of the most important factors influencing a learner’s intelligibility in international settings, and 2) to encourage them to share their own viewpoints and experiences regarding issues of international intelligibility in actual classroom practice (i.e., what they would like researchers to know).
