“From a young age, I knew I am going to be a scientist, and it’s a decision I have never regretted,” said Dr. Assaf Zinger. Today, he is a rising star in biomedical engineering and nanotherapeutics.
Conducting his postdoctoral research at the Houston Methodist Research Institute in Texas, Dr. Zinger is developing personalized biomimetic (inspired by nature) nanotechnologies for drug delivery and regenerative medicine. Specifically, he is working to treat heart disease and a rare postnatal disorder known as Rett syndrome. He is also trying to find a cure for the deadly brain cancer, glioblastoma.

About the Speaker
Assaf Zinger received his degrees at the Technion: his bachelor’s degree in 2012, and his doctorate in 2018 from the Faculty of Chemical Engineering with Associate Professor Avi Schroeder. One of their many outstanding achievements involved combining enzymes with nanoscale drug delivery systems to allow for non-invasive procedures that would have otherwise required surgery. Dr. Zinger is the grandson of a Holocaust survivor and by the age of 29 had already served the Israel Defense Forces during three conflicts.
