“Solving the Family Myth Using the Principles of Logic” presented by Jill Morelli, CG
Every family has its stories - usually colorful snippets of remembrances of our ancestors. Some sound unbelievable, but some seem to have “nuggets” of truth. As a genealogist who practices mindful analysis to determine the level of truth in every data point we use, how does one go about proving a myth and separating the “wheat from the chaff?” We will look at several typical examples and, using the principles of logic will parse out truth from fiction.
Jill Morelli, CG, is a writer, lecturer and researcher specializing in the Midwest and Scandinavia. She lectures nationally and has been published in the National Genealogical Society Quarterly, the Swedish American Genealogist, etc. She founded the online Certification Discussion Group in 2017, sharing her journey to receive the credential of Certified Genealogist. She also conducts the online "Write As You Go!" workshop in the summer. Jill is the program director for her APG chapter, co-chair of SGS Centennial 2023, and is past president of the Seattle Genealogical Society.
