Hawaii has some of the most progressive climate commitments in the United States—even leading the country with many climate policy firsts. Simultaneously, the state has a retrograde parking policy landscape. As a result, Ulupono Initiative has prioritized parking policy reform as one of its key transportation sector policies in its mission to help Hawaii become more sustainable and resilient. Kathleen Rooney, Ulupono’s Director of Transportation Policy and Programs, will explore what kind of impact parking policy reform can have on climate and transportation goals, discuss recent lessons learned, share successes, and more! She will also cover the road to passing Honolulu Ordinance 20-41, one of the larger examples of off-street parking reform, unusual for the size of the population it impacts and the range of geographic landscape it covers.
