This presentation aims to challenge ableist approaches to mental health care and offer strategies to increase access and meet clients' needs.
Speaker: Dr. Jennifer Crofts, Licensed Clinical Psychologist
About the Speaker:
Dr. Jennifer Crofts (She/Her/Hers) received her doctorate degree from Wright State University’s School of Professional Psychology. Throughout her career, she has had experience working in a variety of settings including community mental health clinics, college campuses, disability services and most recently in private practice in the state of Florida. Dr. Crofts specializes in the provision of bilingual (Spanish/English) mental health services to marginalized populations including people with disabilities, the LGBT+ community, and people of color.
o Review the history of disability rights in the US
o Discuss the different models of disability and how they impact the attitudes and perceptions people have of individuals with disabilities
o Challenge the current pathology paradigm in mental health practice
o Review clinical considerations when working with an individual with disabilities
o Discuss strategies to adapt clinical services to meet our client’s needs
