This weekend-long Virtual Panhandle BioBlitz is the perfect time to further explore your backyard, neighborhood, or Nebraska state park areas to investigate the local biodiversity. We will give you the tips & tools to become a community scientist as you identify the flora & fauna around the Nebraska Panhandle!
At 9:00 am, we will have a Welcome, introduction to the BioBlitz and how to use iNaturalist session. At 3:00 pm, we will use the same Zoom link as 9:00 am for a Check-in with Natural Resource Experts. This will be a time to share what you have been finding and ask our experts any questions.
A BioBlitz is an inventory of all species (plants, mammals, birds, insects, fungi, etc.) in a specific area, over a specific time period. BioBlitzes actively involve members of the community in a scientific endeavor that generates new knowledge and understanding of the natural world.
The first 75 registrants will receive an Exploration Kit (limit one per group or family or person) filled with field guides, investigation tools, activity sheets and more! You must register by noon on April 26th or until kits run out to receive an Exploration Kit.
Be sure to join the Virtual Panhandle BioBlitz 2021 project on iNaturalist, too! https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/virtual-panhandle-bioblitz-2021
Please take pictures while you are out during the Virtual Panhandle BioBlitz. If you would like, share them with Delanie Bruce, Nebraska Wildlife Education Coordinator, at email@example.com. Photos received may be used throughout the weekend for participant spotlights and for marketing future Bird Conservancy events, such as in-person BioBlitzes.
