Conservation Marketing and Engagement Webinar

A webinar hosted by the Society of Conservation Biology's Conservation Marketing and Engagement Group (ConsMark) on April 2, 2021 at 12pm EST. The webinar will feature the following two talks on marketing and behavior change for conservation.

(1) A systematic review of conservation efforts using non-monetary, non-regulatory incentives to promote voluntary behaviour change by Laura Thomas-Walters

Laura Thomas-Walters will discuss the results from a large systematic review which assessed the strength of evidence that voluntary interventions will result in pro-environmental behaviour change. Through an intensive screening and quality appraisal process, Laura and her team narrowed more than 300,000 records down to 128 individual studies that merited inclusion in the review. They found strong evidence that education, prompts and feedback interventions will result in positive behaviour change, but neither intervention exposure duration nor frequency had an effect. Laura is a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Stirling, currently investigating the use of video games as a research tool. (2) Leveraging Local Knowledge in Promoting Community-led Conservation Marketing Campaigns by Divina Lade

Divina will share her experience working with communities in designing and implementing conservation marketing campaigns that are behavior-centered and people-oriented. Divina is a marine biologist, behavior change communicator, and aspiring GIS specialist. She has mixed marine science and social science research, including involvement in community development work, coaching, and mentoring community leaders in conservation and alliance building.
