Join us in community of support and connection in this virtual space for APIDA (Asian Pacific Islander Desi American) students at UMD!! Share your stories of pride, cultural heritage as well as difficult experiences with racism, xenophobia, pandemic, etc. This space is open to APIDA diaspora across ethnic identities, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, dis/ability, caste, gender identity, and immigration status. All APIDA undergraduate, graduate and international students are welcome!
What does a typical session look like?
It may differ week to week, however, we hope for participant-driven conversations. We may draw from current sociopolitical climate, pop-culture, and news events that are relevant and important to our communities (e.g., the surge of AAPI hate crimes, Suni Lee winning the historic gold medal in the Olympic games, etc.). We will hold space for life challenges (e.g., family dynamics) and name the oppressive experiences (e.g., -isms). We also will facilitate questions and comments centering empowerment, healing, sense of community, and radical hope.
If you are interested in participating in the next meeting, please register to receive the Zoom link and read the participant guidelines in your confirmation email.
