Artist R. Canon Griffin will talk to us about his ways of seeing and looking at photographic archives. He will also introduce History In Progress Uganda, an initiative which he has been part of since 2011 alongside Andrea Stultiens.
More importantly though, he will take us on his personal creative journey, discussing the reasons that prevent archives from actively existing, and examining the possibilities that archival photographs offer as entry points into past stories. He will also discuss the relationships between truth, importance and clarity in approaching photographic archives. Through these conversations he will talk about how he uses archival imagery in his own work, as well as the ways in which past, present and future are locked in a dialogue that offers opportunities for exploration.
