Webinar: Holistic Advocacy
Presented by: Praxis International
Victim advocacy is a crucial element of supporting survivors in the aftermath of violence. Victims are best served by holistic advocacy that responds at the individual, institutional and community levels – moving beyond simply addressing safety for survivors. This webinar explores different types of advocacy and the core principles that are foundational to eliminating gender based violence in our communities. In many jurisdictions, survivors benefit from the availability and services of both community-based and system-based advocates. In some places, however, this has led to confusion for the victims, courts, and community regarding the differences between the two types of advocates. Join us as we explore:
• The definition of holistic advocacy;
• The need and context for confidential advocacy;
• The distinctions between community-based and victim-witness advocacy; and
• Discuss how advocates from different settings can collaborate to promote a holistic response to survivors in their communities.
Praxis International seeks to work in ways that takes up the full range of women’s experiences whenever and however possible. Praxis is committed to offering social activists sharing this goal a supportive and challenging work environment. The primary method of work is to analyze and change masculinist institutional practices that contribute to men’s violence toward women and the related methods of social control that make women vulnerable to violence.
