Reaching Platinum: Examples of Two Large Scale Wastewater Infrastructure Projects
The City of Los Angeles’ Bureau of Engineering Clean Water Infrastructure Program has completed construction on two large-scale multi-million-dollar projects. The Advanced Water Treatment Facility (AWPF) at Terminal Island Water Reclamation Plant (TIWRP) provides 12 million gallons per day of safe recycled water as a replacement for potable water for the surrounding area and the Hyperion Water Reclamation Plant (HWRP) Digester Gas Utilization Project (DGUP) is a combined-cycle cogeneration system that converts 7.5 million cubic feet of digester gas produced daily at HWRP to electricity and steam. Although these projects were very different in nature, the project teams were able to achieve a Platinum level certification for both projects. This webinar will discuss the process for reaching Platinum and share some of the lessons learned and the City’s approach to using Envision at a program level. The Envision framework was used to evaluate the Wastewater Treatment Plant program for its level of sustainability, creating a baseline and identifying sustainability gaps to improve upon.
